A challenging day
Great weather and a great course helped keep most racers at bay during the challenging backstage events to keep the day safe and sound for all.
I take full responsibility for any miscues throughout the day and can only say lessons learned and will employ them to refine this event to make it even better next year; thanks for your patience, it was much appreciated. Credit goes to all the volunteers who stepped up to make this a day for the racers.
Pictures are up on Wheels in Focus - Amara was escorted throughout the day on moto and has some terrific photos (probably including at least one of you!).
My commitment is too make this a race one that you'll look forward to coming out year after year. A lot of time and energy goes into these things and it's an accomplishment when most everybody goes home satisfied at the end of the day - whether they're a volunteer, official or race participant.

Time to ROCK!
Remember a $5 late fee applies on day-of-race registrations, though 100% of those fees will be donated to the South Kitsap Helpline Food Bank. Alternatively you may bring 3 non-perishable items to donate to the Food Bank and the $5 will be waived. ALL participants are requested to donate non-perishables to the Food Bank as a goodwill gesture to the community we are racing in.
All race participants will be required to fill out a race specific USAC/Kitsap County athlete release. This is available here (http://www.ldedge.com/2008_kitsap_county_event_release.pdf) to fill out beforehand OR plenty will be available to fill out at registration on day-of-race.

Upon further review The Church of the Nazarene has decide to revoke our overflow parking agreement due to commitments to their parish & services that morning; and potential conflict with Little League playing that afternoon. So as Homer would say - DOH!! So please do not park at the church across the street. Additional parking is available on the shoulder north of the school on Sidney Road anywhere there is not a No Parking sign.
Sunday looks to be the best day weather-wise this weekend - partly sunny 62F light NW wind, only a 20% chance of a shower.
No matter when or where you're racing in the "unofficial omnium" this weekend come out to hang with your teammates, test yourself, race smart and have fun.

Detailed full course description
Start at Sidney Glen Elementary School at intersection of Sidney & Glenwood.
Proceed on Glenwood until at mile 1 there will be a right turn still onto Glenwood. End of neutral rollout will be at mile 1-1.5 (after this first right turn is a slight upgrade). Proceed on Glenwood for another mile until the first left turn - again remaining on Glenwood (if we went straight it'd become Lake Flora), this enters the course (mostly clockwise) loop.
2.5 miles until the left turn onto Wildwood.
1 mile until a right onto Sidney.
2 miles until the right on Minterbrook.
1 mile until finish at Westbrook.
If not finishing - continue straight another 1/3 mile until right turn onto Glenwood (northbound).
3/4 mile until left turn onto Lake Helena.
2.5 miles until right turn onto JM Dickenson.
JM turns into Lake Flora after the T continue through the rollers until the right turn back onto Glenwood going south.
The lead in to course loop is approx 2 miles while the loop itself is approx 15.5 miles. Mileage expressed above is rounded off. Finish is approx. 6 miles after the intersection of Lake Flora & Glenwood. Feed Zone is on slight upgrade on JM Dickenson prior to T intersection where it turns into Lake Flora. Many rollers, several short ramps, a couple false flats - should be a great ride for the all-arounder.
If you're otherwise not racing this Memorial Day weekend it'd be a good opportunity to preview the course and get a leg up on your competition.

You may pad your chances by purchasing additional coupons for the drawing at $5 each or 12 for $50 or 25 for $100. Cash or checks will be accepted at day of race only - though all day long. See registration table for additional coupons. Drawing will take place at the end of the day; you need not be present to win. Odds of winning will be based on how many entries are received.

Now available to all eligible racers regardless of gender; an equal opportunity race.
To be eligible for this field you must still NOT be a Junior or Master (those are the main events and if you're in those age brackets you must race in that Junior or Master field).

Attention Women's Masters
I've had a request to allow the Women's A & B Masters to race separately for State Championship honors.
I will be willing to do so if I get a decent advance sign up via bikereg.com for both fields. Pre-race registration closes June 4th at Midnight EDT (9PM PDT).
So ladies, spread the word amongst yourselves in the weeks to come, you want it - you can have it; but I need the numbers, otherwise it'll remain a combined race (as scheduled).

Out of State racers welcome
Non-Washington State racers are welcome to participate in all races. Racers must race in the Juniors or Masters category they fit into. Pro/1/2/3 race open only to those under the age of 35.
The only qualification is that you must possess a valid USAC license (or UCI equivalent) and understand that you are not eligible for WA State Championship medals in the Masters & Juniors races. Though prize money (if offered as discussed previously in my ongoing efforts for sponsors) will be paid in order of finish regardless of residency.

Pre-Race Registration open
As of today registration is open via Bike Reg or via USPS snail mail (if you want to pay the cost of the stamp verses the small registration fee).
No field limit on Juniors or Women (since frankly it shouldn't be a problem). All Men's Masters fields have a 100 racer limit while the Pro/1/2/3 field will have a 125 racer limit.
All racers need to personally sign the USAC/Kitsap County event release form - so if registering online, save time & print it out (forms will be available day of race), write your WSBA number (they'll be available for rent if you don't have one) in the upper right hand corner. If registering via USPS, send me the completed USAC/Kitsap County event release w/WSBA # and your personal check (no cash please).

Refund Policy - No refunds, credits, or exchanges. Though if you know you're not racing, phone or email me (253-691-6793 / justfivegrins@hotmail.com) and I will happily apply your money toward the charitable cause the race supports & mail you a donation receipt.

Although currently the prize section for each of the Master fields is listed as medals - I'm working with some contacts to sponsor the race and provide $$ for the top finishers. So presently the only field with $$ as an incentive is the Pro/1/2/3 race, but I have hopes to expand that to the other Masters races.
Juniors will not be racing for money but will have an enhanced package in addition to the state championship medals for the top 3.

Registration info.
Just in time for Presidents Day - you can use your presidents (i.e. $$) for pre-race Registration when it opens Saturday March 1st. Just a minor detail or two to work out with the Kitsap County officials before I feel comfortable collecting entry fees.
Cost will be $10 Juniors, $25 Masters & Pro/1/2/3; $5 extra on day of race.
USA Cycling requires a "wet" signature, so please print and fill out 2008 USAC/Kitsap County event release form (also available in Race Specifics) and bring to registration. Write your WSBA number (if you have one) in upper right hand corner.

Masters age limits revisited
Upon further review - please disregard my previous FEB 11th post, the infomation I shared was in error. The correct information on the various Masters categories is now listed properly and can be also viewed at http://www.wsbaracing.com/barr.asp .
Sorry for the confusion - my bad for not varifying information that led me down the wrong assumption (I know, I know!) - and getting any of you 30-34 guys/gals all excited about racing in the Masters categories.

Age lowered to 30
I think WSBA is mirroring the USAC Masters National Championships and has lowered the requirement to race in a Masters category from 35 to 30; which should up the competition somewhat as some youngsters who otherwise might be sitting idle (or racing in the CAT 1/2/3 race) will be in the Masters group.

USAC Course approval
This course is just west of HWY 16 (Sedgwick Road exit) near Port Orchard, WA. I will post driving directions from Tacoma as well as from the Southworth & Bremerton ferries.
Registration & start (Arrow) will be at Sidney Glen Elementary School. South on Glenwood Road, a right and a left still on Glenwood, East on Wildwood, South on Sidney, West on Minterbrook, North on Glenwood, West on Lake Helena, North on Dickenson which turns into Lake Flora then South onto Glenwood and repeat.
With a 1-mile neutral rollout and another mile until turning onto the 15.5 mile loop. The number of loops and distances will depend on race category, and will be published as soon as I finish up the race flyer (which should be posted shortly). Finish (Stop sign) will be up a short ramp on Minterbrook. Feed Zone (Guy drinking) will be on Dickenson Road.
The course has a few short hills, rollers, flats, and false flats with great to mostly good pavement (only one short section on Wildwood has a few minor potholes that I'll try to get Kitsap County Road Works guys to come out and patch); so bring your fast wheels. It will best serve the all-arounder which I think is ideal for a State Championship race.
